Anyone ever fail part of the State Exam

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I am not sure what to do. I just got my results via internet and it says i passed the written then i passed 4 out of 5 skills. on the 5th skill the test observer marked me for not doing things i DID! i am so confused. I showed her and did it and said it out loud. Now I have to retake the skills portion. I dont know if i can fight the results or if i should just forget it and retake it

I failed my skills the first time. I was so heart broken. I had gotten a 98% clinical grade and I knew I was a good NA, but the nervousness took over me.

Go back and read your skills over and over again. Practice on a friend if you can (my BF was a great little pt for me lol) Don't be discouraged, go back to prove them wrong!

When I retook my skills the nurse who added up my points came in and told me these exact words "Are you going to nursing school, because you should. We aren't supposed to say this, but you missed only one point on your skills, and it was one of those that aren't major"

Go for the goal of hearing results like that!

Best of luck!!

Specializes in NA.

Ask her "Why did you mark me for things I did?'. Listen to what she has to say and determine if she's a tough cookie or not. Just be nice to her, she's just a person. Her job is her job. If she tells you that you need to retake it, don't hesitate, just retake it!

I would contact your skill tester if possible and ask them to specifically tell them what you did wrong. They should be able to tell you, and if you still feel that they failed you for something you did, i would politely mention it. Most testers are more then willing to here your concerns. If they give you any sort of hard time about it though, I would reccomend just retaking the test. Its probably easier to just take it again then try to fight it out in the long wrong. I agree with the comment on reveiwing your skills, if you doubt the tester noticed something, you can always just state what your doing outloud. And remember, stoping a skill before you've completed it and re-doing it is always an option. Best of luck!
