Hi Everyone,
I really need your help.
I currently study in a nurse school in Hungary. It's a special intensive training to become a 'Practical Nurse'(in Hungarian) in one year(over 2000 hours). 6 modules.
I know that it won't be enough to become an RN in the USA. In my country I only should do 2 more modules and an exam and then I would become a Nurse(usually this takes more than 4600 hours, 3 years but my training is faster) but its not a BA.
Is there a way to be at least a CNA or LPN with this kind of education? Or I should just start over when I move to the USA.
My husband is an American citizen so we should go back to USA sooner or later. I am staying home because my mother was diagnosed with cancer.
It scares me that probably my studies here are completely worthless.
Thank you for your time and for the answers.

Only way to find out if you meet LPN requirements is apply to the state for LPN by licensure, you will be assessed and if meet requirements have to sit and pass NCLEX which along with the immigrant visa you receive via your husband will enable you to work as a LPN in the US

You could always try to get into school here in the U.S. When you come over with your green card, you'll be eligible to apply to schools and receive federal funding.
CNA courses are about 8-12 weeks over here and I'm not sure that they translate over from other countries.
Thank you guys.
Yeah I'm thinking about getting some qualification in the US maybe even 3 year nursing or dental nursing/hygiene...but then I'm worried about getting in. Ofc i made my high school diploma in Hungary out of 6 subjects. Unfortunately none of them are biology or chemistry. (I don't feel like missing them because in my current school the anatomy and microbiology is really hard. ) But... I'm sure they won't accept my high school diploma in the States.

well, it might be too late to answer - but I will anyway. :)
I am Hungarian and I am becoming an RN in the US. There are several programs in the US and they do not really compare to those in Hungary. I am not sure if your degree would be recognized or not either. But perhaps you could contact the Board of Nursing in the state where you are planing to move. They are pretty good for giving out information.
Second of all the most affordable way of getting your nursing is through a Community College - in my opinion they cost significantly less. If you have no prior qualifications - such a BA in nursing ( I am not sure about Associate degrees) you should be eligible for financial aid - this is the only financial aid for which you are allowed to apply for with a greencard sponsorship program. The financial aid can be used to pay for your schooling. If you do not qualify you might apply for student loans ( I do not recommend as interest rates are high) or for a Forgivable Loan for Service. The Forgivable Loan might cover your studies and you can repay this type of loan with a few years of service, meaning that you do not have to make any installments on your loan if you are working as an RN fulltime right after college (for 2 yrs at least).
You will need your college transcript transferred to the college that you want to attend here in the US. Your Hungarian transcripts (bizonyitvany) would need to be both translated and certified by the World Education Services (WES). This might sound complicated but it really is an easy process.
RN programs are mostly Associate degrees here, which means that they usually are 2 year programs, however, there are some accelerated programs in which you can all get it done under a year. These are known to be very hard though and considering your personal circumstances - your mom being ill and relocating to a new country I would go for the 2 yr program at a local community college.
I am starting nursing school in a week. It took me about a year to get into the program as there are certain requirements that you would need to meet in order to be accepted. In my case I had to take Anatomy 1 & 2 ( I already have a BA in another field and it covered a lot of the prerequirements for my school.) If you do the leg work and the research, contact the school they will put you in contact with the right people check your paperwork and tell you exactly how you can get into their Nursing Programs.
