How does a CNA become a hospital tech? I heard that you'd have to get your phlebotomy certification as well. Anyone know?! I'm in Washington state.
kenyacka 91 Posts Specializes in n/a. Mar 11, 2013 I'm a tech in Kansas city, mo. I don't do phlebotomy. The only thing other than cna certs is bcls and I just had to have that before I started, I didn't have it when I accepted the position. This was my first job after cna training.

I'm in Washington state.Getting hired into a hospital as a tech is 75% knowing(or sadly being related to) the right people, being likeable in the job interview, and plain luck. The other 20% is having work experience as a CNA or being a Nursing student. Maybe 5% are extra skills like phlebotomy. At least thats been my experience.Hospitals and nepotism go hand in hand. Tech is an entry level position that is highly desirable for young people wanting to break into healthcare, which means allied health staff or Physicians at the hospitalsystem or who have connections within it, who have a daughter or son or close relative who wants the job will often make sure they get to the top of the list.
