CNA with dreams of becoming an RN, career advice ??!

Published

Hello guys ! Umm hmm how do I start off ? Well like it says in the title, I'm a CNA and my dream is to become an RN. I just really need some advice. I don't think you guys wanna read my whole life story, but I'm struggling a lot as far as paying all my bills and taking care of my son. I currently work two jobs as a CNA and as a cashier in Home Depot. So I struggle pretty bad. Now my dilemma is, I have a few people telling me who work in the nursing home with me that I should go to school to be a LPN first so that it'll be easier for me to start college for RN. Everyone is telling me it'll be almost impossible to concentrate on my school work while running back and forth to work and care for my son. Is becoming LPN first a good idea in my case ? If so, any advice on how to pay for all the schooling that I need ? Please be 110% honest with me ! Thanks for anything !

does the facility you work for offer tuition assistance or reimbursement? this will help you paying for school. If you wish to be an RN I would go for the RN instead of doing the LPN route, but If its not possible for you due to financial reasons or because of scheduling doing the LPN route first could be beneficial for you to gain some experience and extra $. I would look into the place you are working or perhaps look for employment as a CNA in a facility that will help you pay for your schooling. Good luck.
