Took my class in IL and it took appox. 9 months to complete.

Day to day activities at a hospital

7am: get report from the nurse and start your vitals

7:30-8am pass all food trays

Answer call lights

9-10am pick up trays from patients rooms

(in between all of this, find out if any of the patients would like to bathe and wash them up)

11am accu checks for the patients that needed them

12-2 pass lunch trays, while answering call lights or assisting the nurse with anything she may need

also during this time, patients may be admitted or discharged, it was our job to get the room ready for when a patient arrived on the floor and to take them down to the patient drop off when they were leaving

2-3 pick up lunch trays

chart on all of your patients (I &O;s)

3-5 answer call lights, start passing some trays for dinner (some patients eat early), prep patients for surgery. take accu checks

5-7 pick up dinner trays, admit more patients, empty foley's, assist patients to the bathroom

7-7:30pm give report to the next shift and go home

Dont think this is all I did, I also had to go to the lab to pick up blood, send specimins to the lab (urine, poop), change diapers, try and keep patients in bed that wanted out, but did not realize tehy could not walk. Feed patients at every meal, deal with families, bring bodies to the morgue.

Working 12 shifts takes a lot out of you, but the bright side was it was only 3 days a week.
