CNA Anyone?

Nurses General Nursing

I was just curious if there were any CNA's on the board? It not, can someone please tell me what they do? I am condidering talking a 9 week CNA course at my local Adult School.

It's a really long story, but to make it a little shorter... I couldn't be added to the chem class at the CC I'm going to., so I opted for an all daySaturday Sociology class that I know I will eventually need anyway. Then my boss who had said .. "I'll defenitley work around your school hours".. decided it was just better for me to resign (Ahhh:( ) so that's what I did. My last day is next Friday... so I can either find another customer service job or take the CNA course, but before I sign up officially.... I wanted to know what they really did and where they are usually employed, i guess monwy isn't the biggest issue, I'm looking at it from the aspect of getting into the medical field while I get my ADN...

So, any one out there to answer my quetion?

P.S. In Arizona it is out of the CNA scope of practice to pass meds. That is the job of a licenced or registered nurses.

Catherizing a male is easier than a female but a Urologist told me once while he was watching me cath a female patient "to look either for the smiley face or the wink and aim. You are sure to hit it every time". That one peice of advice has served me well. lol

At my Hospital, a robot passes meds to the phar tech who passes meds to the room box and the nurse's pass them to the PT. It all begins with a robot :-( Won't be long till ALL healthcare workers are passed ever being needed for anything. These are the good old daze you willl one day tell your stepchildren about :-(

Bravo Jnette!!! And congratulations on doing what you've always wanted to do!!

I really appreciate all of the input!!! I've been doing some research, and I found three different adult schools in my area that are offering the course. Now it's just a matter of deciding which school is going to be best... They each have different schedules, one is 8 weeks, one is 9 and one is 10, and they each cost about the same... one even offers FREE childcare!! Well, pray for me... I didn't realize that I would have SO many options, and now I know it was the best thing for me to leave my job as a customer service rep and follow my dream... your stories, advice and support have all been very inspiring to me... (((BIG HUG)))!!! THANK YOU!!!
