Clinicals in a small town? Doable?

Hi everyone!

My question concerns the likelihood of completing clinicals within the hours I have available.

My children go to a small private school in a very small town. We have one very small hospital, without and ICU.

I want to do ACNP but I am concerned About what type of clinicals I can complete (there are two urgent cares, one cardiologist, and one hospitalist- MD) within thirty minutes. The rest are farther away.

I have my children to drop off at 730 then I can make it to other sites by 830 or 9...which seems like a late morning to me. Then I would have to leave to pick the children up before 630. Is this possible?

Add in this is a small hometown that I am not from...

I feel like I should just give up now.

I just need to know if ACNP seems possible here- what type of clinicals are acceptable- does it have to be with another ACNP or can it be with a FNP? Can it be with a hospitalist of a small town facility? Can it be with a physician?

Does anyone have experience securing these sites without knowing anyone? I've commuted my entire career and now my children are starting school in this small town.

I have zero help as the husband travels. And moving is a huge financial burden until I am out of school.

If anyone has a bucket full of encouragement or advice I could sure use it!

don't give up now! yes, i think that clinicals in a smaller hospital are very possible, but obviously will limit your exposure to certain things. How about use up clinical hours in the areas that you don't consider "VITAL" to your future career at this smaller center, then focus on the things that you will need a LOT of exposure to and plan for those hours in summer, or a time when you will have a bit more flexibility, etc? My school DOES allow MDs and PAs to preceptor us for some hours,but most hours need to be with NPs. obviously all schools are different. good luck!
