Clinicals for family nurse practitioner...

Published

I was wondering what the clinicals for FNP were like. Are they all in a primary care/pediatric clinic environment or are some in the hospital? Are we as students allowed to do anything or do we just watch? I am just curious as to what to expect.

At my school they are all in clinics. What you do is more or less up to the preceptor.

Specializes in Adult Internal Medicine.

Both inpatient and outpatient normally.

And you will by the end be expected to be nearly independent and doing everything.

Specializes in ER, ortho, tele, PCU, GI.

At my school they are required to all be in a primary care/outpatient setting. My instructors really stress trying to get in to see the patient and do everything we can. It really depends on your clinical setting. I've had some preceptors that take over the visit and just let me watch and some that push me to try to create a plan for the patient before they jump in and solve it all for me.
