Clinical Vent

I am so tired of people at the hospital I am doing my clinical rotations at treat me like crap. I also hear over and over how much they hate students. I understand that students can sometimes be more work for them, but we don't have a choice, we have to be there. They seem to forget that they were once students too. Yesterday I was on a floor observing proceedures for 6 hours before I was even aknowledged and even spoken to including given a brief discription as to what they were even doing and why. It makes for long days......

Also, if I have one other person tell me that I HAVE to go on for my RN I am going to scream.

You were on a floor for 6 hrs before you were given an expplanation?! Did you ask what they were doing? I know nurses sometimes are the most welcoming of people, but as a student if you ask "can I do something" "what are you doing, etc" sometimes you might be able to get more out of the experience. Hopefully school will go by fast.

Of course I did, when i got there they instructed me to sit in a chair. They scrub techs and xrays techs told me throughout they day that they were too busy for nursing students. After 6 hours they introduced themselves and showed me a few things. I made the best of the day, I talked to the other people on the floor and got as much info as I could. But I wasn't suppose to be shadowing a xray tech, I am a nursing student. I mean it was ok to see how the computers and such are run, but I am not looking to be a unit clerk, ya know? This is typical here, it is a teaching hospital and is drowning with students of all types. I think the staff is just burnt out. It is getting old very quickly.
