Clinic to ER

I've been a pediatric clinic nurse for a little over a year now. It was the only position I could get out of nursing school. I really want to work in the ER, it's where I did my focused practicum and I fell in love with it. But now I'm scared that I have forgotten everything I learned in nursing school that i wouldn't be able to cut it. I plan on leaving the clinic in the next few months and applying at the local ER's. I'm a quick learner and I already have my acls and pals. What's the likelyhood that anyone would hire me? Any suggestions?

I guess you won't know until you try applying! It depends on the area you live in, and how competitive it is. I would suggest to start applying now, and not leaving your job until you have a new job. You never know how long it will take.

It is of course possible, I often hear of people who get jobs after several years of clinical or home health work, so it just all depends. Good luck! If you know anyone or have any connections at all in the hospitals, now is the time to use them to get your foot in the door for an interview

I would say the likelyhood is great!! Especially since you basically have all your certs (which is a big hiring point for most directors) just get your TNCC and you'll be like a diamond in that application pile

And don't worry if you fell in love with it once then you'll most likely love it again ;)

Go for it. You have your certifications already. You will not have forgotten everything and you will remember it quickly and learn everything else fast. Just let them know that you did your focused practicum in the ER and that is what you really want. Just have your running shoes on when you get there.
