Cleveland Clinic PCNA??

Hey there, at the Clinic, the way their program works is you have a short orientation (2 or 3 weeks) and then you can begin working as a PCNA. It's not like in a nursing home, where you have to take a state test... I think the starting pay is around $7/hour, but I'm not completely sure... I worked there as a nurse associate (nursing student in my last year of school) and was paid $12/hour... hopefully there is someone else on here that can help you more. Good Luck with school!

I'm an STNA here in Cleveland, and I agree with the $7. However, Eastern Region pay can be different, I interviewd and was offered 8-10, 11.5 if I did PRN, but PRN doesn't get insurance. And, as you know, LTC always pays more. I have heard that the State Licensure can get you more $,s /hr, but many hospitals and LTC's like it when you train there - shows loyalty (in a position where loyalt lacks on both parts) Good Luck!

Granted it's two years after you originally posted. But for the newbies here's a current answer...

CC pays approx $9 - 10/hr as a PCNA.

PCNA = Patient Care Nursing Assistant

Parking costs about $50/month if you are full time. Less if part time.

The training is about 2 weeks ALL DAY.

Here's the problem. It's NOT STNA training. So no, you can't do the PCNA training at CC and then take the state test. So that means you will not receive your state certification! So if and when you leave CC, you cannot work as a STNA because unless you go out and actually take the STNA classes and the state test your PCNA means nothing.

Okay okay not totally nothing because it IS patient experience. But without the STNA certification you're stuck.

Going into private care freelancing as an STNA will earn you anything from $8 - 12/hr. Depending on the facility and/or agency you get hired by. You get more dollars per hour if your are PRN or part time. Less dollars if you do receive insurance.

I just found out...

part-time pay is about $9/hr and PRN pay is $11.50/hr. if you work PRN you sacrifice getting any benefits (regardless of how many hours/times you work) but the pay is a little higher. You're required to work at least one 8-hour shift per month in order to keep the position.

They also have condensed orientation periods that only last a week.

Actually I now work there and the pay depends on which department you are in (pay grade) thus for PRN or for any PCNA position, you'll get any where from $9 to $10 an hour.

As PRN you don't receive full benefits but you can choose to buy into the program.

Orientation lasts for 2 weeks in the Healthspace center and you can expect additional training on your own floor anywhere from 1 to 4 additional weeks. All training is paid.

I don't mean to highjack this topic, but I would like to ask creativemom about how she got into the PCNA class at CCF? I have my STNA and just interviewed for a PCNA job there today, but they told me I needed to take the PCNA course to get more experience. However, the past two times I contacted someone about the course I was told it was put on hold. I'm going to email one of the nurses in the department I interviewed at to see if she can give me any more information on it as well. Thank you ver much.

hi, i'm a recent grad RN who just moved back to cleveland and i'm looking into applying to the CC as a PCNA.

does anyone know if i can work in ohio as a PCNA if i have my RN license?

RNs are allowed to work as PCNAs in Ohio:

"Can a licensed practical nurse / registered nurse work as a patient care assistant? The Nurse Practice Act does not prohibit a nurse from limiting his/her employment responsibilities to that of a patient care assistant or other unlicensed personnel. The licensed nurse that accepts employment in a position that does not require a nursing license and who chooses not to engage in licensed nursing practice should not identify him/herself as a nurse. If he/she identifies himself as a nurse or engages in the practice of nursing he/she will be accountable under the Nurse Practice Act and administrative rules."
