First off sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, as I'm not sure who looks at what boards. So feel free to move it to a better spot.
I am an LPN student, and I have been nominated to run for ANA Class President, we will actually have 2 and a VP, along with Secretery., 2 Treasurers., and Fundraising commettee.
My questions are:
1. Is it worth it? (Is it good for your resume)
2. What are you responsibilities?
3. Does it take up alot of time that could be used as study time?
4. If I do campange, any ideas, on what to do to win them over? Should I do a little bio as to why I would be good at it etc. Take them sweets every day etc.?? ( All ideas appreciated)
I sort of came into this class wanting to just "fly under the radar" and pass the class and move on, so to speak, however, at the same time I am quite honored to have been nominated. (I'm older, look younger, so I'm kinda like the "hip mom" alot of the class already.)
Anyways, as I was saying, I never expected this, and I am not sure if I should play and get into it, show school spirit, or if I should just sort of ignore the nomination and vote for someone else.... LOL
Thanks everyone

1. Is it worth it? (Is it good for your resume) I would assume so, I haven't graduated yet, but I plan on putting it on my resume.
2. What are you responsibilities? TOO MANY!!! I go to school with lazy folks too, they whine to me, and expect me to run with it. When it takes me a couple days, all hell breaks loose. They want all these things but refuse to take any action for themselves, my VP is useless, the treasurer doesn't wanna hold money and my secretary is so overwhelemed it seems like we are the only two ever working on anything! Liason between students and instructors, administration and clinical preceptors (why, I don't know), planning class meetings, planning class trips, organizing class funds, head of student-to-student mentoring, organizing fundraisers and getting them approved, creating the class T-shirt, assigning people to committees for various school events (decorating the classrooms for holidays for example).... and the big one, in charge of the pinning. I didn't think it would be a big deal. OMG WAS I WRONG! I am in charge of booking a site, providing an estimated # of family members and ordering cake/punch, recruiting underclassmen to help set up/clean up/usher, write all speeches given by my classmates including one of my own (thank God I am the valedictorian, so I could combine that speech), booking a guest speaker, getting all music/photo slideshow approved by administration, organizing class photos, sending out invitations, making sure we all take our "student" patches off, etc, etc, etc, etc..........
3. Does it take up alot of time that could be used as study time? You better believe it does. Me and the class secretary have spent the entire day today planning for our pinning, and we are not even close to being done.
4. If I do campange, any ideas, on what to do to win them over? Should I do a little bio as to why I would be good at it etc. Take them sweets every day etc.?? ( All ideas appreciated) I didn't campaign. I got stuck doing it because I had the highest average, and administraton chose who they thought would be best suited for the job and who would be sure not to flunk out. THey picked all our officers.
I say do it. It's fun, but it's time consuming. In the end, I am happy I am in charge, because things go the way I like them and they aren't half-cocked. I spend alot of time making sure my class is involved in helping me choose and make decisions. I also spend alot of time in the DON's office and advocate for our class on what we want. I even got our class new math books and pocket notes. I also have many underclassman buddies. I share experiences with them and tutor them in my spare time (which is just that, very spare), but it is something I wish I had as an underclassman. I have also implemented a new mentoring program. I am very perfectionist type A and I settle for nothing less than awesome. It has been good experience for me and I would not have changed it for the world. GOOD LUCK! :)
