Hello all,
Looking for some advice. I am hoping to submit a package for Air Force Reserve Nurse Corps 2011 Fiscal year. I work at the VA (and love it).
There is a civilian clinical Nurse position open at the Air Force base. I was thinking that if I worked on the base it would give me
1. an opportunity to experience military life (to confirm that Reserve Nursing is the right decision for me)
2. Networking to get to know the Head Nurse, recruitment people etc
Any thoughts on whether I am thinking about this right?
Thanks

I was civil service in an army hospital and I wouldn't say that it made me feel like I was in the army. It definately is a great job with great benefits. Like you said, you will meet some great networks also. I don't know if it would prepare you for nurse in the reserves or not. To know if the reserves is for you, you need to talk with some reservists. Hope you get more responses on this. Good luck

Occasionally there's a "service commitment" when you're a GS at a government hospital - i.e., they're paying good money to train you to be their kind of RN, and you pay them back monetarily if you leave before a specific amount of time.
Check for this carefully.
Thank yoy very much. I think I'm going to go for it and apply. Thanks again :)
Would have never thought to ask about something like that. Thank you for the heads up.
