I am looking for anyone who attended City College in Ft. Lauderdale for Nursing. Is this school worth it? I'm sure there are RNs who attended this school but I haven't been able to find any reviews online. Please help as I am seriously considering going here for my RN.
1.I want to know if this school prepares you for the Nclex ?
2. Do the area hospitals hire graduates from this school?
3. I would eventually like to receive my BSN, will other schools accept credits from City College?
PLEASE HELP!!!

I know personally two people that have attended city college.
One is a young lady I met during Kaplan class, and she said that it was a tough program, they are very strict though, and you have to get B's. She was hired at memorial regional as an RN.
Another person I met is an old friend of mine who I have known since middle school, we lost touch because she went away to college (she went to USF, got her psychology degree), and then decided on nursing, so she went to city college where she failed during the program twice, so now she went to LPN and since none of her science credits from city college transfered over, she is now at MDC doing pre-reqs for the LPN to RN program there, for MDC.
Anyways, as you know city college is on provisional status with the FLBON. They are expensive, and you are only gettting an associate's degree from there, and your credits will probably not transfer to a public university.

I went to city college, it is very hard. All B's are required. Its alot of work but its worth it. The schools passing rate on the NCLEX is above a 93%. They do not graduate big classes because alot of people just do not make it. My class started with more then 40 people and only 10 of us graduated. They do prepare you for the NCLEX.
Hospitals do hire graduates from City College.
Getting your BSN afterwards shouldn't be a problem I know alot of City College graduates who did with out any issues!!!
If your willing to put in the work I say go for it, just stay focused and get ready for a bumpy ride!!!
40 people started and 10 graduated??? LOL sounds like BCC when I went, it was like 48 people started, and 11 graduated out of the original class... so they better have a good NCLEX pass rate!
If you really want to be a nurse, then might as well go for it as winterspringRN said---
there is nothing else better because the community colleges are super packed and difficult to get in, and the other schools-- well even if you can't get your BSN at a public university another private school will let you in, such as jacksonville university-- that's where I know someone from keiser is getting their RN-BSN degree.
I was very lucky to get into bcc, but I waited on the waiting list-- the keiser advisor would call me a few times to try to lure me into applying in the RN program there--- but I never went and decided to stick it out and finish my pre-reqs for the RN-BSN program at FIU and decide that eventually I would get accepted to BC, and that's exactly what happened.
Thanks so much for the feedback. I am glad to hear that students have been able to complete the program at City College successfully. I think I am going to put in my application this week. Believe me I have been looking into nursing programs everywhere and they all have a waiting list or require a lot of pre-reqs. Keiser was also an option but City College is actually cheaper. I am very motivated so I hope I can be successful at this school.
tdz1, you wil be successful at the school. just make sure you study hard and always practice your skills and do nclex questions from a book, you will be fine.

Do you guys know anyone who graduated from City College and is now pursuing the BSN? How did they do it? What program did they get into? This is the only thing that is hindering my decision?

I am currently a student in City Colleges RN program and I've done extensive research on this school. It seems to provide the same opportunities for employment and also continuing on to obtaining a BSN as other schools. Note: No matter what College you go to, some transfer credits may not be accepted, just do the best you can and take the classes needed for your BSN when that time comes because it will pay off in the long run. The big named Colleges are accredited by NLN/CCNE while City College has a ACICS rating. ACICS is also recognized by the US Dept of Education as a legitimate accrediting agency. 99% of the Nursing jobs I've seen don't even care about that, they just want you to have the proper license and a CPR endorsement. However, there is one exception and that is the Veterans Hospital. They require their new Nurses to be NLN or CCNE graduates, but they do offer Waivers for RN's that are not. They have a right to be selective because it's a federal job. I think City College is a great choice that will open the door to a very successful Nursing Career. Getting your BSN in a big named school later on will help open the door even further because you will then have that NPN/CCNE or you can go for your Masters. But either way, City College is the way to go.
