Cimetidine and diazepam

hey guys, cimetidine interacts with diazepam. as a result, it inhibits hepatic microsomal enzyme metabolism of these drugs. I dont really get what this means.. :( is it a good interaction or a bad one.

Mylanta and cimetidine also interact. The interaction decrease pharmacological effect from possible impaired absorption.

Another thing is, what should we be alert when monitoring DIAZEPAM intravenously? I know what we should monitor during administration of intravenous route, but when it come to abit more specific, like diazepam, i have no idea....

Help needed.... Thanks so much

wow.. i just found out here that cimetidine also interact with mylanta. This makes me more confuse.

Here is the scenario.

as a nurse, i have to provide discharge education for Mr A.

He is ordered, Dilantin qid, Cimetidine qid and Mylanta prn.

Can i tell Mr A to take Dilantin and Cimetidine together?? or take dilantion after meals that wait for another 1 hour before taking cimetidine?? the interaction of these drugs is inhibiting the hepatic microsomal enzyme metabolism. Is it a good or bad interaction??

On the other hand, interaction between mylanta and cimetidine decrease the pharmalogical effect from possible impaired absorption. seperate administration by at least 2 hours. This sounds like a bad interaction. So i have to tell Mr A, after taking Mylanta, he has to wait at least two hours before taking the cimetidine, is that right?

but for instance, he had his lunch at 12pm and has taken dilantin and cimetidine (i am still not sure whether these drugs can be taken together), and at 1.00pm, he feels like he has to take mylanta. Can he actually take that?? but in the drug book, it says at least has to wait two hours.

These drugs interact with each other, so when should i tell the patient to take the drugs?? struggling.....

Thanks in advanced for the help...
