CHOOSING specialties, where to begin?

Published

Hello, I am looking for information on how to choose specialty.

I have alot of experience in wide variety of areas (ER, CCU, floated on all hospital floors, even a little in medical records)

Most recently my role was to prep and assist a surgeon who did simple office based surgical procedures (similar scrub/circulating role). So I have some really nice experience there and I was well liked by my supervisor and the surgeon.

So you would think I would know what is right for me at this point, however when I'm an RN I know this experience is going to be very different.

Priorities for choosing the right specialty

1.Am I able to do the role and completely excel? I have some recurrent health issues. Do I fit the role?

2. Do I have the right personality for this role? Does this role fit me?

3. Do I find this role interesting enough to desire to get advanced training in it?

I am considering everything at this point (except OB). I like almost everything. Even non bedside roles. I just want to work somewhere than I can be great at, where I "fit" . And I am not sure if I am good enough for CC/OR/etc.

Any links to resources to help me make this choice would help. Thanks
