choosing a school

Hi. I was wondering if I could get some advice. I am a mom of 2 young kids, I'm 34. I have been out of school now for 15 years. I have been really considering going to school to become a nurse. First, I have been looking online for courses you can take online and then do your clinical someplace. Is this something that is realistic? I was considering the 2 yr program. Do they hire nurses with a 2 yr? I am nervous to pursue this because I have my hands full at home, but I am currently staying home with the babies now. Is anyone here in the same boat that has been in this program? Is it completely insane to want to do this lol!? Any advice, thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If you have any suggestions on schools online or on campus in new York it woukd also be so helpful. I was thinking of the postpartum field. TIA !!!

Hi Danie, what your looking to do isn't unheard of actually. I met a woman a bit older than yourself working in the GI/ENDO PACU. Nursing was her second career, so she went from stay at home mom to full time nurse. It's never too late learn something new :)

The ADN program will require a few nursing pre-requisite courses ( between 9 and 12) depending on the program. Most of them will can be completed online. The actual ADN program will require your physical presence several days a week. Check out your local community colleges, some may offer a weekend and evening program. Best wishes!

Thanks so much. I'm starting to look into the pre requisite courses now. I want to make sure I take the correct ones. Do you know wherei can find the exact courses thati need to take?

Choose a few local community colleges that may have a reputable program, then look on their website under the nursing tab. There you can find all of the criteria for applying (usually) . If not give them a call, they can fill you in.
