Hi all,
I am a pre-nursing student (actually am waiting for my--hopefully--acceptane letter) and have always wanted to work peds.
I am going to orientation for a volunteer position in Peds at a local hospital and the director over the phone said it would be a "Child Life" position....
I know I should have asked for more details....but didn't!
Do any of you know what that entails??
I would really appreciate it. I am really looking forward to starting this, I am just curious as to what I will be doing.
Any knowledge on this would be great!!!
Thanks,
:)Lisa

Child Life handles different things, from helping kids understand what is happening to them (like explaining an IV or a blood draw), to making sure they can get to the playroom, have a video to watch..et cetera. There are many things that Child Life volunteers and paid staffers do.
I'm sure if you call them back you will be able to get specifics.
Thanks vamedic.
That makes it more clear. I guess that is kind of what she had related over the phone - but wanted to clarify it. They actually called regarding orientation yesterday. I'm kind of excited - I fel a little silly - I mean I am only doing 4 hours/week...I've just never worked in a hospital setting.
Thanks again,
