Hey there, I am a College Freshman, and am currently enrolled in General Chemistry 1. I am struggling in the class and am thinking about withdrawing and taking it some other time. I AM a freshman, so I am having to get used to college life, let alone a "difficult" subject such as Chemistry. My school's BSN program doesn't require a Chem credit, but I am wanting to be CRNA, so that's what throws the kink in avoiding Chem all together. Basically my question is, should I withdraw and fight another day, or struggle through it now and get it over with? Thanks.

A poor chem grade will actually hurt you. Don't just take it to take it. CRNA programs will look at your BSN GPA, your overall GPA, and your science GPA. You can always take your chem courses after you get your RN and you are working to get your experience. If you do not think you can get at least a B, do yourself a favor and withdraw, then concentrate on your program courses so you get a good GPA in there and not slack on them because you are concentrating all your effort on that one chem course. Good luck!

Most definitely what mrdearmas said above. Don't take it just to take it, and do withdraw if you can't make an A or B. If it's not required, they won't think negatively of you not having it, and they won't know if you're weak in the subject because there's no proof. If you take it and do poorly, then that reflects poorly on your science ability, which might hurt you. There's plenty of time to show your strengths in your nursing courses later. And if you should happen to apply to a crna program down the road that requires chemistry, then take it at that point, when you've got lots of college experience under your belt and can devote time to just that one class.
I am really wanting to drop it, because it is taking up a lot of my time and is distracting me from my other classes. The problem is this, I currently have 15 credit hours, and if I drop Chemistry, it goes down to 11 (part-time). So right now I am stuck! Any suggestions or ideas will be appreciated!
Any option of some late start courses? Underwater basket weaving even. Haha. Anything to fill the gap? Ask your admin and see what they can do for you.
I am going to talk to them tomorrow, hopefully we can work something out.
Okay, so it worked out, I signed up for a night biology class to make up the hours. I love biology!
Good choice. Get an "A"!
Glad it worked out! Go for it!
