OP, I did not like my Chem book. So, I went to a large library in a town near to me that does accept textbooks etc from the public. I took 5 different chem books over to a cubby table and flipped thru some of the sections my class had already covered. I found one book that was excellent. It's just about whether the author has "the gift" or not.
Never wallow in the poor choices your college makes in the way of textbooks. In nursing, I used the books I bought off the internet to study from beginning my second semester, some were medical books. I sold much of the stuff I had bought as ordered by my nursing department back to the school. I knew that if I needed something specific to the ones the nursing department had us buy, that they had copies of those books in the nursing library I could access.
Chemistry is chemistry. Anatomy is anatomy. You get the drift.
