Chemistry calculator help please!!!!!!!!

Published

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a nice weekend. I have a question about using a scientific calculator. I can't figure mine out and the instructions are pretty much worthless.

I have figured out how to put in a decimal and get the scientific calculation, but I can't figure out how to put in a scientific notation and get the decimal number to check if I did it right. Does that make sense??

If someone has a basic $7.99 calculator (mine is texas instruments) and can tell me the buttons to push to get from scientific notation to a decimal number, I'd really really really appreciate it!

Thanks so much!

Jennifer

Ok, you didn't mention which model, but I have the TI-30Xa and to turn off scientific notation you press the yellow "2nd" button and then the number 4 (which has FLO written above it). Let me know if that worked, ok?

That's the model I have but what I guess I mean is how can I punch in a scientific notation and hit equal and it will give me the decimal form??

like 5.25 X 10 -4

What would I push to find out the decimal form of that??

TIA

Sorry about the -4... it's suppose to be in the upper rt corner of the ten but I can't get it up there .... ugg

Ok, I was trying to figure that one out the other day myself and I just found it. Here's what you do to enter 5.25 X 10 -4.

1) input the number 5.25

2) press the EE button

3) input 4

4) press the gray button on the left of the equals sign that looks like "+ -" (I hope that makes sense as I couldn't find a better symbol to represent the two arrows on the button) to make the 4 a -4

5) press your "=" button.

Ta da!!! I was so happy when I found a page that kinda explained this, but for a different TI model so some of the buttons were different.

Thank you soooooo much! I actually figured it out last night on my own but I was convinced that I was still doing it wrong... I always have to have a 2nd opinion... LOL

I am really disappointed in the instructions... it's more like a notecard with a few numbers and buttons on it... geesh

Anyway, I really appreciate your help! Thanks again!

Jennifer
