Someone I know got a cliffnotes type book from Barnes and Nobles and she liked it. Elaborate a little on electron placement??? Are you referring to orbitals? I'm quessing that you are since you are also referring to valence shells. Quick note: What ever period the element is in that is the number sub orbital your valenece electrons will be in. No prob! Good luck! The biggest things to remember when it comes that is as follows:

1. Whatever period the element is in that is the orbital you will find your valence electrons in.

2. Valence electrons will only be in the S and P suborbitals.

3. The number in your superscript should always match up with the number of electrons for the element.

4. There are a couple of exceptions to the rules when it comes to orbitals. I believe they are copper and cobalt.

There are plenty of good things out there on Youtube and places like that as well. I have used recorded online lectures to augment my studying.

Is there a lab portion to this class? I see that you stated that it is online.

yea the best way to remember how to do the 1s 2s is to it it like a zig zag...

2s 2p

3s 3p 3d

4s 4p 4d 4f

s has 2

p has 6

d has 10

f has 14

if u zig zag through the triangle ull know how the electron format is set up... ull never go wrong.. hope that helps

Not absurd at all. I used recorded youtube lectures for both Bio and Chem. I had to 13 page single spaced paper/oral presentation that I had to do in bio on cord blood being reprogrammed to a pluripotent state. I definitely spent some time looking at videos on youtube in my research. : )
