Hello everyone,
I am going to an open house at BMCC on March 4th and have started to organize which classes I would like to take for this summer. I'm going the slow road and taking 1 or 2 classes at a time in hopes to focus more and get the A's needed to get into their nursing program.
I wanted to know do I HAVE TO TAKE Chem 118 in order to take A&PI? What are the qualifications for exemption of Chem 118? Not all cuny schools require you to take a pre-req before A&P I. For example Queensborough CC just requires that you get a passing score on the CUNY ACT test which I've already passed. I'm just trying to take the least amount of science courses as possible. I'm not very good at it and don't really want to take it if I don't have to. City Tech also states that if you have a college level bio course w/lab, you don't have to take any pre-reqs for A&P I.
I'm trying to find out what BMCC exemption status is for taking chem118 (in order to take A&PI) because ultimately I would like to be admitted to their nursing program, however if they don't have an exemption I'll probably do my A&P I and II at another Cuny cc so that I don't have to take chem 118.
Please help.

It seems like every BSN nursing program has a chem requirement, and one class has to be organic chemistry (at least in my research). Also, you should be asking an academic counselor at MBCC these questions--they'll be able to help you. Also, wanting to go into a science profession and hating science doesn't seem like a great combination. Maybe you're better at it than you think, if you work hard and give yourself a chance!

I'm taking Chem 121 at BMCC this semester. From what I have read online you have to take either Chem 121 or 118 in order to take A&P 1 or you can get departmental approval. So, if you have taken science classes before and feel you can bypass the chem requirement then I suggest you go the the Bio department and ask for approval. Hope this helped.

I remember having to take Chem prior to A&P when I did pre-reqs are few years back. Best to call the Nursing Dept or check with your advisor. Good luck in your studies.

Yes, you do have to take Chem before A&P. I am also taking it this semester.

What section are you taking? If you don't mind me asking.

You are making the right move so far by only taking 2 classes per semester. I have done exactly the same and have been able to keep a 4.0.

Can someone please tell me about this open house on March 4th?
What time is it at?...Where do you have to go?...Do you need to call ahead of time to reserve anything?...What do you need to bring with you?
What is the purpose of it?
The open house at BMCC is on March 4th and they have the time slots for 3:00 and 5:00, however, you have to sign up online for it.
