I probably made a big boo boo but after reading so many scary nursing posts and seeing the conditions in the hospital where I work I changed my major to Surgical Technology. It's gonna cut off at least 2 years of school for me and I can graduate by next year.

Are you disappointed being an CRNA or just tired of the hospital scene? Everybody should step back and take a long, hard look at any career choice. A lot of jobs are not for everyone and nursing certainly is one of them. I do get frustrated at times with the "politics" of nursing, but generally don't let these distractions bother me. It is true that most of the harvesting companies I have come in to contact with use Techs for the work. Mike
ShoDobe,
Thanks for your support. To answer your question I opted not to go to CRNA School, the dream that started my "long strange trip" into the world of nursing. I was the ship's nurse on the USS AMERICA when the time came to apply for graduate school. I was working with the CRNA's on the ship and they had become so disillusioned with the MDA Vs CRNA fight that they highly encouraged me to pursue a new career path while I had the chance. Long story short, when you are at sea there is lots of opportunity to think and I decided to leave nursing altogether. It took some fancy footwork but I was able to use graduate school as a jumping off board to pursue Medical IT. I survived the stock market bubble burst (Medical IT is in high demand especially in Radiology) and was featured on NBC news some months back for some cutting edge work we are doing in 3D Imaging Reconstruction.
There are some moments from my nursing practice that I will cherish (patient care moments) but it will be a long time (if ever) that I will be able to forgive nursing (the profession and the culture) for the crap (no pun intended) I was subjected too. I am much happier now and so is my family.
