Hi there. Need a smart people's opinion on the subject. I am 1 51 y.o. RN, who is about to graduate with BSN. I would like to hear from you all, the pros and cons of my question. If I proceed and get my FNP, I will be probably around 54-55 y.o.
What chances do I have to land my first job?
What to expect in my first job? Schedule, pay, etc.
Please help me to think about it and make a decision.
About myself: LPN (since 2015)-RN (since 2019). Experience: Nursing home (LPN), Rehab. hospital (LPN), home health( LPN-RN), Neuro ICU (RN), Post anesthesia care unit in outpatient surgery (RN).

How long do you plan to work? How much more will you be earning as an NP versus RN? I would certainly consider the cost of the program too in order to factor in the viability of this.... If you plan to work till 70 or so, I say go for it. However, if you plan to retire at 65, maybe not so much.
I will say that many NP positions are much less physical strain/stress on the body vs floor nursing so working until you are older is certainly doable. Nursing is a second career for me also - I was an LPN from ages 34-36, ADN 36-46, APRN 46-63 and still going strong. Much easier physically to continue working....best wishes with your decision

One of the girls in my class was 57. Don't let your age stop you. Are you smart, motivated, and inspired? I say go for it. At 57 you will bring so much life experience with you. ? Do It!
