the chance to find a NP job for new graduate without experience

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all,

I graduated from a nursing school in May 2009. However, I couldn't find any hospital job up to now. So I decide to continue my master degree as a NP. I have questions:

(1) is it very difficult for me to find a NP job after graduation if I don't have any clinical experience? (I only have 1 year visiting home nurse experience)

(2) anyone know how can i find shawdowing of an experienced NP in a hospital when I am studying the NP program? welcome to any suggestions or resources links.

Thanks.

I am a new grad from a NP program and to is having a hard time finding a job. I do think it is the economy also. The jobs being offered are below the money I am asking for and are not in the area I'm interested in. I do believe that I might have to settle until I get the position I want. Keep looking something will come open soon.

Hi BCgradnurse, do you mind giving me the name of the university that you got your FNP degree from? I live in Texas and I'm having difficulty getting into NP program due to my lack of experience.

Thank you!

Where did you get your degree? And are you looking for jobs outside your geographical area?

Thank you for posting this question I too posted a similar thread. I am struggling to find an RN job for about 10 months now and have received some discouraging comments from people on here saying its a waste of time to continue your education while you wait for the job. I think people who financially cant consider investing more money would be more negative. I am in the process of applying to MSN FNP to get more education and skills while I wait till this economy straightens out and I have a job. I am more than willing to work as an RN first before the NP job if that comes first. My concern is as a nursing grad the longer you wait you tend to forget what you learned in school so I was thinking by using this free time now to go for the MSN I would be brushing up on the knowledge I learned and learning more along with gaining more skills and knowledge that can open up more doors for me down the line. how can furthering your education be a bad thing honestly? why not take advantage of this free time and focus on getting my MSN FNP .
