Chamberlain School of Nursing, Jacksonville, Florida

Published

Anyone wiling to share pros and cons (I know it's very expensive) about this nursing school!

I truly can spell willing. Yikes!

I am not a student there so I cant give you inside info. However I have checked out the program myself. I work for a hospital where they frequently come for clinicals.

Pros

  • Great simulation lab/ up to date equipment.
  • BSN program
  • Open enrollment all year around with no waitlist. As long as you qualify and pay you are in. Almost every other program is highly competitive. A 3.6 is the lowest GPA a local community college took for spring term.
  • I have had the chance to come in contact with nursing students from different programs in town. On average Chamberlin students seem to be better prepared than a lot of others.

Cons

  • The cost is outrageous we are talking $60,000-$80,000 depending on previously earned college credit. That is 3 to 4 times the amount it would cost at a community college.
  • If your plan is to go higher with your education this might not be the best fit depending on what your end goal is. Chamberlain applicants might have harder time getting into another college. For profit schools with high admission rates tend to have a stigma attached to them by state schools. You do have the option of continuing on with one of their higher degrees.
  • This next one some might consider a Pro, but for me it is a Con. Their classes are accelerated. If I remember correctly each semester has two, eight weeks blocks with 3-4 classes per block
