I would like to complete my pre-req.'s at DeVry because I do not qualify for financial aid and can use a student loan toward a second BSN; also, I like the fact that the classes are accelerated.
Will someone who has completed pre-req's at Devry answer the following question.... Is A&P I offered in the first part of session A and the second part in session B? Are all the pre-req's 8 weeks or some less?
Devry completed my transcript evaluation and accepted 96 credit hours while Chamberlain accepted 8 of the pre-req's classes. Now Chamberlain wants me to complete:
Success Seminar (get real...are you kidding)
College Algebra (recv.'d a D from ungergrad)
Principles of Ethics (no problem)
Logic and Critcal Thinking (took Philosophy)
Interpersonal Communication (took Public speaking)
A&P I
A&P II
Microbiology/Chemistry
Nutrition
Pros of Devry: accelerated, small classes, decent library, culturally diverse (no offense), great student environment, flexible schedule, accessible instructors, great tutoring
Cons of Devry: TUITION!!!!! having to retake 2 classes and success seminar, 3 years to complete
Pros of CC: tuition, closer to home, 2 year program, could obtain an 8K WIA grant for tuition, 16 weeks for a semester for pre-req.'s
Cons of CC: no flexible schedule, long wait list, not culturally diverse, ok facility, some CC's accredited, unable to obtain student loan for tuition, will not receive financial aid (will have to pay balance out of my pocket)
I greatly appreciate the advice...thanks in advance.
I guess there aren't any Chamberlain students availble, huh?

I'm one!! haha Well, I took A&P at my other university, but you take A&PI one semester and then A&PII the semester after. All the pre-reqs are 8 weeks long unless it's a science course. Chamberlain is picky when it comes to transferring courses. The reason why your public speaking course didn't transfer over is because interpersonal speech isn't about making speechs - it's about the the different types of communication amongst people. I'm just about to end my firse semester so I don't know too much about the nursing courses yet, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask and hopefully I could answer them for you =]
Cshuh and lukesmom83,
Thank you two so very much for your replies and emails. I greatly appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules to assist me with the many questions I had.
I'm getting a better understanding of how sessions A and B operates along with financial aid. Well, Chamberlain did accept 30 (correction from previous post) semester hours leaving me with two - three classes to repeat due to lack of comparable syllabus/courses. As my sister indicated, I may learn something I didn't learn when I took the class years ago.
Taking interpersonal speech is fine because it is totally different from public speaking as you mentioned csuh. I do appreciate the flexibility of the courses and online opportunity.
I know tuition is extremely expensive however as lukesmom83 mentioned, I have to do what is best for myself and my child. As a single parent and attending college prior to this program, I need to get started ASAP. I don't want to do any more research on CC, private colleges, public universities or anything else....I just want to do it and not look back.
I was accepted at Brown Mackie for the LPN program with tuition at 32K and Northwestern Institute of Health and Technology for the LPN program with tuition at 18-19K with the assistance of a 8K WIA grant. Unfortunately I would not be able to take out a Salllie Mae career loan for 10K to cover the balance of tuition and fees.
Although DeVry/Chamberlain is much more expensive, it offers a BSN, accelerated flexible courses, accessible instructors and tutors, and better facilities than the other schools where I was accepted. Chamberlain just works for me and my situation and I'm sticking to it.
I'll have to come back and read this post if I feel a little overwhemled during the next few years. Once again, thanks again.

teacher08,
When do you start at Chamberlain? I just applied and I am waiting to see if I have been accepted for Spring 2010. You went through the same things that I was going through. Trying to decide about pre-reqs, and if I should take them somewhere else. At the end of it all, you just have to get it done and I think you made a good decision. I just want to get my BSN and then move on to the MSN and that's it. All of the hemming and hawing just prolongs the process and makes it more difficult to buckle down and just do it. When are you starting the program?
I can't wait to see how many classes that they will approve for me!
hrealhousewife,
I'm not quite sure when I'll start Chamberlain because I stil have to take the entrance exam. I had DeVry communicate with Chamberlain in reference to completing a transcript evaluation prior to enrolling for the pre-req.'s. I will take part of my student loan refund and take 3-4 classes (semester) at the CC and one class at DeVry (8 weeks) for spring '10 because it will significantly cut down on my tuition. I'm already in debt with my M.Ed. and trying to work a plan that assist with the cutting the cost for tuition.
This quarter at DeVry I only paid the $65 enrollment fee and my student loan covered two classes. I'm only able to take 3 classes at DeVry based on my student loan funds however if I take only two the refund will cover up to possibly 4 classes at the CC (that's why I'm unable to tell you when I'll start Chamberlain because I want to complete as many pre-req.'s as possible and affordable). Also, this plan will still give me an opportunity to enroll without the waitlists at other schools.
Best wishes!!!
