Im currently in Iraq serving the Army as a medic, many have told me I can go home and challenge the state board. Does anyone know if that is possible and if so, how it can be done?

I challenged the boards for my LVN back in 2001. I was an Air Force medic. First, get an application from the board. The application will tell you the process for military personnel to challenge the board. All I had to do was send in the application with a letter from my supervisor stating I had one year of bedside patient care experience. Make sure you put the dates (start to end) of your experience instead of just putting how many years. They want to know specifically. Also, add your duties in there too. It was an easy process. The only downfall is that if you move to another state your license may not be transferable. I think only 2 states allow military medics to challenge the boards and that's CA and TX. Good Luck! Let me know if you have more questions.

Yes, you can challenge the NCLEX-PN exam, and only because of being a medic in tne military. That is the only classification that can now challenge the exam without having gone thru an approved school of nursing.
And as the above poster has mentioned, the license that you will get cannot be endorsed to most other states, but you will be able to use it at VA facilities throughout the country since that is federal and only requires that you hold a current license from a state or territory.
Best of luck to you.
