CGNFS CES woes & UK nursing schools

Published

Just thought i'd share my CGFNS CES application woes with everyone and wondering if anyone else is going through the same thing?

After years of procrastination I finally decided to apply to CGFNS for my credentials to be verified. I started my CGFNS CES application in September '15 and now at the end of February, it's still ongoing....

Here's what i've found so far:

1) CGFNS is determined to prevent you from emailing them. They make you go through about 10 different pages in their contact wizard every single time you want to ask them something. Then it's a small text box that you can write your query in which has a word limit... When they email you back, it's from a no-reply email address....

2)I've decided that my UK university is determined that I stay in the UK as they are particularly keen on not filling out the required CGFNS forms. Despite being told that they do these forms all the time.... 5 months later, 4 identical transcripts later. CGFNS are still asking for a breakdown in my practical and theory hours because the university essentially staple the transcript to the form and assume CGFNS can work out the hours. (Note: my transcripts essentially state the number of credits and if I passed. And the module names aren't something clear like Surgical Nursing. They're things like: Care of the Adult: Acute and Enduring Health care needs.)

This week, the latest email I got from my university essentially said - 'hi, we're admin staff. We cannot break down your hours into practical and theory hours - so if you want us to do this, we will put 0 hours for each theory and practical requirement'

3)There's absolutely no sense of time... everything is sent by post. I'm to assume it takes up to 3 weeks for letters to go from UK to US and vice versa. Then when it's received it's supposed to take 3 business days for your documents to be scanned onto the CGFNS system. It doesn't, it can take up to two weeks and only because you ring them up and keep hassling them!

Anyway, I did make some small progress this week, I got an email address! So it's not all bad, but it is sooooo frustrating. Anyone else in a similar situation?

I had my Australian qualification evaluated 2 years ago. I am sorry for what you are going though. I had many of the same problems as far as hours break down, theory vs practical. I found emailing them a true test of patience and calling not worth it since you could never speak to anyone who can answer anything. Many of my queries where never actually answered which left me wondering if they actually read my email. (I saved one particularly for a laugh). All I can offer as far as advice is keep at it. It took just over a year for my credentials, and still I am missing many hours of theory. Regardless I am finally a registered nurse practicing in the US. Good luck!

Hi,

I have similarly procrastinated like yourself and decided to try get my US nurse license but after reading some of these threads I'm feeling a bit despondent with it all and the time it takes. I qualified in 2001 and I know I didn't do obstetrics practice (did do theory) at least so I'm worried that a CES report will show up loads of hours/theory I have to make up.

Also with the report costing $350-$395 just for that ( and the rest of the costs!) I'm wondering if it's worth it. That being said I don't want to waste my career!

My NMC registration runs out in September and its a thought to go through all the revalidation shenanigans and still not be able to practice as an RN here.

i hope you get things sorted quickly though!
