Clinical Topics

Specialties CRNA

I would like to request that there be more clinical topics on this forum or else a separate place be set up for students or those who are considering becoming a CRNA.

Clinical anesthesia is exciting, interesting and requires constant learning. Sharing experiences among practitioners has always been one of the best educational modes for me.

While I have enjoyed participating on this forum, I am bored at reading the same type of posts day after day. I have received private messages from others who feel the same way. Before I get nasty messages telling me that I can delete or choose not to read the ones that don't interest me--believe me, I understand that--let's try to change the focus a little and see what happens.

i disagree separating SRNA forum from this forum - the information gained from others years of experience is invaluable. i understand the questions about "how do i get in...what is it like...etc..etc..." but current students aren't asking those questions. most current students want to have clinically relevant discussions - and frequently ask questions regarding cases...

I agree there's not enough clinical dialogue in this forum. However, it's hard to deter the wannabe's. People who are interested in anesthesia (count me in) are going to pursue whatever information they can find about the career, whether it is clinical or career advice. Even if they don't understand some of the clinical aspects, they will want to know what people are talking about, what topics are involved with the career.

The CRNA forum has been set up to be whatever members make of it. There's no reason to re-structure. If people want more clinical discussions, then by all means start some. For those of us on our way to anesthesia, it's wonderful to hear and learn about. For the wannabe's, keep encouraging them to search and read the stickies. The "I'm in high school and I want to be rich" type of posts will quickly dissipate if it is demonstrated that clinical dialogue is the norm here.

Separting the forum is certainly not needed. You guys that's currently in school or already working in the field should understand what it's like trying to get in , the application process, interveiw questions, and just the anxiety of it all. At the same time, we ( prospective SRNA's) apprecaite reading about OR cases, scenerios, research and your overall experiences as a student/CRNA. It enlightens us and gives us something to look forward to.

Again, I think this forum is great the way that it is. I personally would apprecaite more clinical dialogue because I'm, as well as other's, are just interested in the art of anesthesia.

I agree with this. I too would like to see more clinical discussions and hope we can start to generate more interesting topics about anesthesia practice and not just about how to get into school.

I think that the key here is going to be the SRNAs and practicing CRNAs starting these. I know that I'd LOVE to read some threads like this, but as I'm not in CRNA school yet, my knowledge/experience are a little lacking and I don't really know what to ask.

Why not just create a new subcategory:

Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) -> 'Clinical Discussions'

Then branching it into:

-> 'CRNAs'

and

-> 'SRNAs'.
