Certification for Pediatric Nursing in NY State

Published

Looking for info on exam sites and requirements for becoming certified in pediatrics. Also interested in cost of such. I am presently a Senior RN in peds and have been in practice going on 17 years. I am interested in becoming certified, but cannot find any info. Hope someone can help.

There are 2 different entities that offer pediatric certification (that I know of).

  • The PNBC offers the CPN. It is open to all levels of RN education. The cost is $280 ($100 registration, $180 for the test). The testing is computer based. Their basic requirements are an unencumbered (US) RN license and has a practice requirement of 3600 hours (in US facilities) in the preceding 4 years. http://208.185.53.71/ptistore/control/exams/pn/index

  • The ANCC offers a Pediatric RN, C. It is also open to all RN education levels. The fees are kind of complicated, it looks like it can cost as much as $320 unless you are a member of some specified organizations. The tests are paper & pencil and are done on specific dates and at specific locations. The basic requirements are and unencumbered (US) RN license and has a practice requirement of 2000 hours in the preceding 3 years (the required hours have to be met while holding an active RN license). http://www.nursingworld.org/ancc/cert/eligibility/pedADN.html

If you already hold the ANCC certification the PNBC will award certification by endorsement if certain requirements are met.
