Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) or Certified Addictions Registered Nurse - Advanced Practice (CARN-AP)
Examinations, implemented by the Addictions Nursing Certification Board (ANCB), are designed to determine and recognize the ability to apply knowledge from nursing and related disciplines to the care of persons with problems resulting from patterns of abuse, dependence, and all aspects of addictions.
Is there a benefit to getting becoming a CARN-AP in addition to a PMHNP if you want to work in an outpatient setting with mental health/addiction patients? Or would most of the addictions-related knowledge/treatment capacity already be included within the PMHNP?
IMOH: Having the CARN-AP in the addiction setting establishing a speciality for practice with a unique subpopulation with in the scope of the PMHNP. As for hoe muwc addiction related information is included on the PMHNP, I have no knowledge of the test make up.
There Co-Occuring questions on the CARN-AP.
I went this way first still looking at if the PMHNP would benefit me personally and professionally.
Good look!!!!!
Hi, cfaith. I'm nearing. Completion of my pmhnp program and will be taking ancc boards in a few months. I've had my eye on the carn and carn-ap cerys for a while, but admittedly still ignorant. Right now I work in an acute locked facility thqt diee treat dual diagnosis and offer detox svcs. I also work at a psych urgent care, and of course often mental illnes and addiction are co-occurring. Therein lies the practical appreciated :Don for my interest in the cert aside from just beijg genuineely interested.
How has this changed your professional career? Is it recognized and/or desired by employers? Is it advantageous to have this in conjunction with the pmhnp? I am considering joining as a srudent member of the intnsa, but before I do I am trying to do my due diligence since I have sooooooo much costs in the way of certs, boards, board ex study materials, membership dues, etc to pay for in the near future.
Any advice is appr
