I do IVIG infusions. About 1% of my patient come on with a groshong CVC. I flush them with a 10cc syringe to confirm access and patency. To discontinue I flush the line with a 20cc and lock it with a 10cc syringe. When I worked on a med/surg unit we flushed with only 10cc. It is flushed with a 20cc post infusion because the lines are accessed about every 6-8weeks.

When using a central venous line, I have many questions....at your facilities, 1. What type of central lines are you using (Groshong, Broviac, etc....) 2. What population/s do you use them for? (Pediatric, Adult, etc...) 3. When you give chemotherapy, what size syringe do you use when giving the medication through the central line? I would like to know general chemo and specifically Vincristine. 4. Do you give the chemotherapy with a syringe pump or push? Thanks.
