Central lines for a lefty?

Published

Does anyone have central line insertion tips for a lefty? Thanks.

actually to be a good line person i believe you have to learn to do it lefty style and righty style... lefty style for the left neck/subclavian and righty style for the right neck/subclavian.... otherwise your arms will always be crossing each other

Tenesma is right on the money..also if your department can afford it--a site right ultrasound is a great tool to have...

Uggghhhh....the challenges we left-handed folks face in the world of anesthesia. I haven't tackled a central line yet; however, learning spinals and interscalene blocks from "rightys" was frustrating at first, but I developed my own left-handed style! :p

(Gasp...) They let lefties into anesthesia .....??

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I seem to remember from ACLS that everyone has to learn to intubate left-handed because of the way the scope is put together? I'm a hard-core rightie, my husband will enjoy seeing me struggle with intubation since he's struggled as a leftie his whole life.
