Is there anywhere I can find out how many monitors one tech should be watching? There has to be something out there that defines what is safe practice.:redbeathe

We searched and searched for standards to back up our policy for implementing central telemetry in our expansion and there unfortunately isn't any hard and fast limit.
We did an informal sampling of hospitals around the area and asked our monitor techs (I was a monitor tech prior to graduating) what would be ideal.
The end result is we've implemented a hard cap of 50 telemetry patients per tech. It's a bit higher than I think is safe, but at least it's something.
In my mind, it would be probably 30-40 patients dependent on how extensive the monitoring/charting is (EKG only? SpO2/NIBP?) and other job responsibilities.
That's what I was thinking, sometimes 2 are too many! Thanks for the input if there is anyone else out there with support on more or less please come forward. We need to do what's right for our staff and for the patients.
