CCBC ESSEX Nursing School

Published

Hello,everyone.

I am interested in the program at CCBC Essex,MD. I have an associate's degree from CCBC already so I only need to take the specific nursing (NURN)courses. I am curious about how I can work this out since I can only afford to quit my job for about 6 months (MAXIMUM) to go to school. Does anyone know how long the clinical portion of the program is? Are any of the nursing (NURN) classes listed on the CCBC website available to take now or do I have to be admitted to the program? I am trying to get some classes out of the way while I save up enough money to quit my job to do the clinical. I guess what I really need is more info. about the clinical portion of the program so I can see if I can stop working long enough to do it. THANKS!!!!!

They have a weekend option also but as with any of the nursing courses you have to be accepted into the program to take the classes. The regular day program is 4 semesters. Why can't you work while you are going to school? Most of us did and made out fine. Make an appointment with someone from the nursing department, not a generic school advisor, for specifics. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply! So all of the courses falling under "Nurn..." are only available once you are accepted? Right?

In regards to working...I should have explained that I couldn't keep the job I have now and go to school during the day. I am in human resources and don't know of any positions where I could do that sort of work in the evenings and weekends. (which would be great) I am going to look into the part-time RN option though because that would be perfect since I really need to cointinue to make the same amount of money I make now and probably more since I would be paying for the program. Thanks so much for the quick reply! take care!

There is no part time option. The eve/weekend program is just that. It's in the evenings and weekends, but it's just as long and intensive as the daytime program. HOWEVER, there is an online program. I don't know too much about it though.

And yes, you can only do NURN courses when you get accepted.

Hello,

Yes, you have to be accepted in the program before taking nursing classes. The average acceptance into the program now is a 3.5 grade point average and a minimum of 75 on your TEAS test.

I am in the evening/weekend program. There aren't many of us in the program that don't work. I happen to have the luxury of not working, however I know many who have done so their entire time in the ccbc program. I am currently in Foundations of Nursing Concepts/Fundamentals and Nursing Assessments and Interventions. This is the first semester for us. They just divided the new curriculum into 2 different classes/sections.

We have skills lab on Monday or Wednesday from 6 to 9 pm. We have lecture on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9pm. We have clinical on Saturday and Sunday from 630am to 1230pm. The next semester (Med Surg I and Psych or OB) will be similiar in time frame, with the exception on no skills lab on Monday anymore after foundations. That will probably be replaced with hospital rounds. Also, after Foundations, the clinical day gets a bit longer and you will probably end up doing a night shift at some point in time. Also, Friday evenings will be reserved for picking up client info at your clinical facility to do prep work for the next day.

Yes, it is intensive and it is alot of work..Especially the first semester (out of the 4), but it can be done. In fact, b/c they shifted around the course there appears to be greater retention of students this semester and we are doing well.. Prioritizing and strong study skills will come in handy.

The online option is probably not an option for you b/c they have to do clinicals and skills lab during the daytime between Monday and Friday.

I hope this helped you.
