Hello,
I will be applying to CCBC Essex very soon. I wanted to hear from students that got accepted. What was your nursing GPA, and your over all GPA? Also, what did you get on your Teas? Any info welcome.
Thanks

I just got accepted to Essex for Spring 2010. I started this year at dundalk in lpn but decided to transfer to RN. My GPA is a 3.54 but I've been told that the most important thing is your TEAs scores, mine was an 80, and having all of your prereqs done. Hope this helps!
Thanks it does. Did you get credit for completing some LPN courses? Was it hard to change over. I am asking because I wont be eligible for the RN program until the Spring 2011. I would be able to apply to the LPN this upcoming fall. I was just going to do that, but I don't want to be an LPN.
No they won't let me transfer my credits for my lpn classes, but having that experience already has given me a leg up in the RN program so it works out. I liked the lpn program but I would recommend going straight to RN too. They have the lpn to rn bridge but you have to work as an lpn for six months before you can get accepted so it just makes more sense to do RN if you have the time.
Thanks for the heads-up.

I have been accepted at CCBC catonsville program for spring. GPA is not that important and it only matters in the few classes they actually look at (they don't even look at overall GPA). The care a lot more about your TEAS score, mostly the reading score.
Admissions at CCBC is very simple, it is a points system. You get points for your classes. For example an A in A&PI might be worth 5 points and a B worth 4 points. Whoever has the most points gets in, so it is more important you complete your pre-reqs then worry about an A vs B. Missing classes are worth 0 points and in progress classes are worth 0 points. Hope that makes sense.
Thanks that makes a lot of sense. Do you know of any TEAS tutor's? I know the college will help with math, but do you know of any tutor specifically for the TEAS test. I google search and I don't find anything. I bought the study guides.
The study guide is all you need, don't worry about a tutor.
Make sure you know the reading, i found this section to be very easy but many people do poorly. If you can answer the questions in the book you will be fine on the test
Rest of the sections matter less but you still need to do at least ok on them.
Science stuff is easy but a few questions did throw me off. There were questions about earth science that I had to just guess. The bio stuff I got a 100%.
The math section is mostly very easy math but you can not use a calculator so make sure you can do long division, fractions, multiplying and dividing decimals. I actually ran out of time on this section and it ended up being my worst section.
English section is what you would expect. Make sure you know the basics and you should be fine.
When I took the test I had just gotten in from LA, I jet lagged and exhausted. I could have done much better if I had taken it a 2nd time when I was well rested but my scores were actually very high for the program.
Use the prep book and you will be fine. Worst part about the test is the length, it is a long test. The test takes 4hrs so by the end you are brain dead.
Good luck!
