I am earning my RN via excelsior but I was wondering if it would be better for me to get my gen-ed requirements at my local CC because I plan to eventually get my BSN. I certainly do not want to repeat these classes at that time. I didnt know if those credits would be accepted from Excelsior or not. Thanks!

Depends on where you plan on pursuing your bachelor's.
I am using Thomas Edison State College, so I am able to use all testing to fullfill my general education if I prefer. I will also be able to use those for my desired master's program so it really depends. For the most widely accepted courses the community college courses will work. If you are going for speed in completion of the program you will want to test.
No situation fits every person. YMMV, so look at where you want to go and make your decisions off of that.

I see a lot of people that have pursued their BSN and MSN after getting their ASN at
Excelsior. What I am wondering is why they venture to another college instead of staying the course with Excelsior. Are the other options better? Less expensive? Faster? It just appears that there wouldn't be as many questions when it came to furthering your education if you stayed with one institution. Any feedback?
Not every program fits every needs. I can be done with my BSN quicker through Thomas Edison State College and pay less due to their military options so I am choosing to use that. I am also able to use some of the Excelsior Exams to fullfill requirements for TESC. I would have done Texas Tech, but it was more expensive and I had to do more pre-requisites. I have many transfer credits and want to utilize those if possible. I will probably continue with the MSN- Nurse educator through Thomas Edison State College before getting my FNP.
I am about efficiency and cost for my situation. Depends on your goals and needs. Through TESC you can use the exams for all the General Education just like at Excelsior.
My gen eds would be cheaper through CC and possibly when i pursue a bachelors d/t financial aid. Thats why I would want to
Sounds like community college works well for you. I would also look into how fast you want to finish. I know if I wait for some courses to post and the transcripts to arrive at Excelsior I would be waiting for about 4 extra months from degree completion to actually graduate. I will be taking tests for classes I have actually already done just for speed. Plus the base here just opened a testing center so I can test cheaper.
I have a soldier who I testing out and doing some through CC so that she can finish cheap and quick. It's what works best. I usually suggest doing at least your English at the community college. I have done an excel spreadsheet that is a month or so old on this board to help and it has some advice and recommendations.
