If a femal sexual assault victim presents to your ED can you....

Give unsolicited information regarding emergency contraception?

Give emergency contraception drugs (either directly or with a prescription) based on just a negative pregnancy test?

GIve emergency contaception drugs but only after testing for LH surge and progesterone levels (and if so, what is lab turn around time for these tests)?

NOT discuss emergency contraception even if asked?

NOt prescibe emergency contraception even if asked?

Thanks, just a little informal research.

In my past experience we were not allowed to discuss emergency contraception at all. End of subject. We didnt dispense oral contraceptives of any kind. Of course this was back in the mid 90's . I dont know what the churches stand is on contraception nowadays, I would imagine the answers to the above questions may change with the times.

At the hospital where I currently work, we just started giving out Plan B about 3 years ago.

I do work at a Catholic hospital and yes we can do the above only in the event of a sexual assault - the sexual assault policy in our facility includes offering the emergency contraception medication after informed consent or giving them a script to fill.
