Case Study presentation

Published

i need to do a case study presentation for my nur 101 clinical class. we were given a senerio (45 y.o., male, african american, married, 2 children-10 and 13, 1wk s/p left aka, area of scant serous drainage, hx of pvd, renal failure, uncontrolled htn x7 yrs.)

To prepare for the presentation i have to discuss- the medical diagnosis, signs and symptoms, meds, lab values, teaching needs of the pt, and anything else to be addressed.

Here's the deal- i'm not sure what my professor means by medical diagnosis. is she talking about the pvd, renal failure, and htn? is she looking for what caused the need for the amputation?

should i make a care plan for each of the medical diagnoses? i.e. 1 for htn, 1 for renal failure, etc??

For signs and symptoms im assuming she means for each medical problem. yes?no?

oddly enough i understand what to do regarding the medications and the lab values so im fine with those things, and im also ok with the teaching needs.

I also wanted to ask would post traumatic stress syndrome apply to this patient, due to the amputation?

and would i be correct in addressing the childrens needs/concerns, regarding the fathers health state and amputation??

thanx

i'm not sure what my professor means by medical diagnosis.

the medical diagnoses are pvd, renal failure, and uncontrolled htn. the instructions seem pretty clear:
discuss the medical diagnosis, signs and symptoms
(of each medical diagnosis)
, meds
(that the doctor would prescribe for the patient)
, lab values
(lab tests that would be ordered for each diagnosis and how they might be abnormal)
, teaching needs of the patient
(with each diagnosis)
.

should i make a care plan for each of the medical diagnoses? i.e. 1 for htn, 1 for renal failure, etc??

care plans are based upon a patient's response to the medical disease/condition that they have. you would use the signs and symptoms that you find for pvd, renal failure, and uncontrolled htn and find corresponding nursing problems (nursing diagnoses) that they match with to develop a plan of care for this patient.

i also wanted to ask would post traumatic stress syndrome apply to this patient, due to the amputation?

read about amputation and see if that is a problem that applies.

would i be correct in addressing the childrens needs/concerns, regarding the fathers health state and amputation??

read about amputation and see if that is another problem that applies. i need to warn you that your care plan is about the
patient
, not the children. stay focused on who the patient is. it would be inappropriate to direct nursing interventions at the children when the father is the patient.
