Case Study diagnosis website needed.

Published

I am taking a microbiology class and we have 4 case studies to complete We were not given any direction and I ma not sure what is a good website to put in the symptoms to help me find a diagnosis. I have seen many post with people helping with the answer, but I want to find it on my own.

So, the question is Where do I find the information to get the diagnosis online? I am not in a nursing program yet so I do not have access to diagnosis books. Thank you

If it's the same book that I used in microbiology there should be a list of "suspects" at the end of each unit/chapter. I would research those conditions and see which ones match up with your case studies.

Do you mean nursing diagnosis or medical diagnosis? Big difference.

Web MD has a symptom finder on their website that's pretty decent if you need medical diagnosis

It is a microbiological diagnosis so I am not sure if it matters if it is medical or nursing. I don't know the difference either. That would be another question of mine to be answered.

These case studies do not follow what we are doing in the book (Nester's Microbiology a human perspective 7th ed), so it hasn't been much help, but I will keep looking. We really don't use the book that often in class. The only thing we were given for help is that each diagnosis will connected to an organism or immune system.

I will give an example: Patient with rash, joint pain, yellow skin, swollen lymph nodes, and sore throat. RUQ of abdomen is tender with soft smooth organ lying well below the rib cage and extending into the LUQ. elevated serum transaminases after testing. after follow-ups you discover levels of serum transaminase have fluctuated severely over many months. Prior to all symptoms he received a blood transfusion due to his hemophilia.

Questions are: Specific Diagnosis? Concerns with long term prognosis? What is the specific causative organism? Treatment?

This one isn't so bad, because the blood transfusion is a huge clue. He has Hep C. I haven't had any kind of nursing classes so all of the medical stuff is foreign to me. Is there a database website that will help me with putting in all of the symptoms so I can figure out the rest. I have to be able to document all of my findings. I can just say we learned this in class( Which is how I knew the first answer). Thank you so much

You are looking for medical diagnosis then. web md is good for physical signs & symptoms to point you in a direction of causative agent (they won't ask about labs, etc. but web md may ask "Did you turn yellow after a blood transfusion?") This will point you in the right direction with the diagnosis and some treatment information. You'll just need to back it up with medical/nursing references as WebMD is consumer based.

Example: Medical Diagnosis: Bacterial Pneumonia

Nusing Diagnosis: Ineffective Breathing Pattern
