Hospital CMs - What are your schedules like?

Hi all! I'm trying to learn more what the day-to-day is like as a hospital case manager. From talking to a couple hospital CMs, it feels like it can range from 3 12 hr shifts in the ED to M-F 8:30 to 5 shifts for in-patient.

What do your schedules look like? Do you have to rotate on weekends? Do you ever have to be on-call?

I wish I had 3 12s in the ED as a CM, but at the time, my employer thought it was better to force us to work 40 hours a week over 3 shifts for 24/7 coverage. The 3 12s is a better model because the load for ED CMs is just too much for a few individuals to handle. As for weekends, that can vary by employer too. ED and Inpatient CMs can have a schedule that includes rotating weekends. Some on here only work weekends, but the jobs I had made us pick up 4 weekend days a month. There was some flexibility in how you choose to do it. For example, you could work every other weekend or you could work every Saturday or every Sunday. Thus, I think your best bet is to ask the employers you are interested in working for to get a better understanding of a possible schedule. GL!

I work inpatient and my schedule is M-F 8-4:30. We work a weekend about every 3 months and do not take call.
