Hi- Im trying to get involved in medical missionary clinics, whether it be local or overseas. I have 2 years in med/surg. I just joined our county emergency relief team, but wondering if anyone has any advice as to what my next step is. I want to make this a career, so what specialty should I be in for experience, who should I be in contact with, and how can I still make money without doing med/surg (which I hate). Thanks!

Are you affiliated with a particular religion? If so, that should be your first step since "missionary" work is faith-based. For instance, Catholic Charities is a huge organization with many types of outreach. If you Google, 'medical missionary', you will come up with a lot of relief organizations to explore.
You do realize that most of this work is unpaid, right? In fact - in some instances, you have to pay for your own expenses including travel. So, I don't think it is a genuine 'career' opportunity.
My organization has sent teams to assist with various relief efforts. Based on our experience, the 'in demand' nursing specialties are Perioperative, OB/Women's Health & Pedi.
