i have my ba in business.. i a doing a career change and want to become a nurse, always did but when i was younger didnt want do science etc.. however, i had to learn the hard way... it's never too late to change your plans. learning is a lifelong process, and it's great you have the will and the discipline to that now (even with the baby on the way! i have a bs and also doing a career change too.)for the rn all i need is the ap 1 and lab, ap 2 and lab, chm, enc 1101 to get in to the rn..i am taking my ap 1 and lab at mdc for summer a and i have an a in lecture and lab and got exempt from the final...thank g_d...summer b i will be taking part 2.. that's great, you are on track. if you are going to bcc, they will look at your grades only from these 4 classes: enc1101, chm, ap1 and lab, ap2 and lab. they will not be looking at your microbilogy and lab grades.i cant take chm in the fall because my baby is due on aug 24 the 1st day of school, give or take... that means i cant take my chm till jan term and i will be done i think in april.....when is the cut off date for 2010 and when will the program start?? you cannot apply to nursing until you have completed all 4 classes. if you are still in the middle of taking chm in january term, you have to wait until you complete the class in may, get your grades, and then you can apply to nursing. but, to answer your question, if you want to start rn in jan 2010, the cut off day to apply is july 1,2009 - september 15, 2009. so all i need need to get acccepted in the rn is chm.. then i will have to work on micro pharmacology and dep...once you apply and get accepted into the rn, you have that 1 semster of sitting around doing nothing. during that time, you can take micro, hcp core class, and 5 other misc classes (which are domestic violence, hiv, osha/tb, prevention of medical errors, and cpr) they will not allow you to take pharm until you are in the program. as for dep, you are not required to take that to do rn. however, if you are considering to go on to bsn later on in life, then yes, you should take dep. dep is only required for bsn, not rn.i already have enc 1101, 1102 & 2301... from by ba. they will use your grade from enc1101 in calculating the gpa into rn program.however, i am taking my ap at mdc, but i will be taking my other classes at bcc and the rn program as well.. they only look at the science for gpa... bcc looks at grades from these 4 classes (enc, chm, ap1, ap2) when determining your gpa into the rn program. now my delemna is.. should i do the lpn program at sheridan or continue what iam doing do the rn only.. ?? you should go for the rn. doing the lpn is a waste of time, especially if you already considering doing rn. i am not saying lpn is wrong. but, if you have a goal of doing rn, then you should pursue the rn from the begining. why waste one yr doing lpn, waste money, then go back into rn, and waste more money? just stick to one program, and do your best in it. besides, u are expecting a baby in august. doing lpn, then transition to rn will take forever to achieve.i passed everything already and i am on the list for october 2009. i am not sure what "list" you are on. at bcc, there is no such thing as a waiting list. they only go by your gpa from those 4 classes. those with highest gpa gets in. then i will be done and hopefully a lpn by next october.. then i can bridge over to the rn, im thinkin in 2010 or 2011.. if you stick to rn, you can finish so much earlier. if you go the lpn route, it will take you 1 yr to do that, then another 18 months to do rn. when is lpn to rn cut off date and start date.. lpn to rn starts once a year in may. you already missed the deadline for that.i need to make a deceisions and i am very confused on what to do... lpn is about 4000rn is about 40002 state test and 2 entry test to get in each program lpn/rn have to double check. bcc says no entry yet but people on the forumsays there is a entry... so i dont know bcc keep tellng me no. i have not heard of an entry test to get into bcc's rn program. i started bcc in jan 2009, there was not entry test required. my friend will start august 2009, and there is no test required. my other friend (who is pregnant) so she took a deferment to start in jan 2010. again, there is no test required for her as well. so, listen to what bcc tells you.my husband says to do the lpn to rn.. cuz of money.. but i will be spending like 8000 for bothe prgrams, where as the rn is only like 4000... he told me i need to ask some people i the field.. so here i am :-)

hope that helps! congrats for making the decicsion to pursue nursing. it's an amazing field. once you get into the program, you will be glad you went this route:yeah:
see my replies in red bold belowit will cost you $6,000 to do rn at bcc. it's just my opinion only, but going the lpn then rn route does not make any sense. why are you going "backwards"? you need to focus on doing well in chm, apply to bcc, then continue to take micro. going for lnp then rn will take you another 3 yrs.hope that helps! congrats for making the decicsion to pursue nursing. it's an amazing field. once you get into the program, you will be glad you went this route:yeah:

when i said i was on a waiting list i was referring to lpn at sheridan list for october.. i decided to not take that rouote and focus on getting a's in my chem and ap2 so i can get in the august program 2010...
crap, i hope they pick out the best grade..
enc 1101 c
enc 1102 b
enc 2301 b
i have my certs already for done and all the ones they ask for.. but i have not taken the health core class as yet... i wonder what i will do in the class when the other students take their exam.. guess i will just have to sit and listen...
thnaks for answering all questions...
great, sounds like you've made a right choice!
just a few more things:
1. if you want to get into the august 2010 program, you can apply between march-may 2010.
2. they will take the grade from enc1101, which is your "c" (that happened to me too! i got c in enc1101, a in enc1102. they took the "c")
3. most students who are working in the healthcare industry already, or have all the certs (like in your case) are usually exempt from those silly 5 cae classes with no problem. (they are only 2-4 hrs for each class).
4. however, you probably won't be exempt from the hcp0130 core class. a lot of students have tried, but they will not accept it. it's really easy class, you meet once a week for 6 weeks. it's pass/fail grade. you can easily get this done. they teach you stuff like how to take blood pressure, moving patients, infection control, etc. you will be required to take a weekly test, which are very easy as well. get a 73% on each test, and you pass. you can take this hcp at bcc, online, or one of those votech place.
5. bcc accepts students on a 16 point scale. you earn a number according to your gpa. so, whoever gets the most points, gets accepted in.
6. if you did hosa, you are in luck! you get 5 free points added to your final points (i didn't get this).
7. for the jan 2009 term, a total of 300 students were accepted into bcc's rn for all 3 campuses. my campus (north campus) accepted 125. we lost 25 students after nursing 1 (in march 2009) and lost 50 more students after nursing 2 (in may 2009). we are now in our 3rd class (gi/gu), and we are down to 50 students. this class will be over end of june 2009, we'll see how many is left.
good luck to you and get that 'a' in chm (to make up for your c in enc1101)
Yea got to work on that A i was hoping to get ina Mini Term for Chem in the fall ,, cuz my baby is due in august.. justincase they decided to add a generic term with th LPN this summer like they did last year.. but i heard starting in the summer is hard to cuz its 6 weeks for the first class..
No hosa for me

TiAndMoe, I decided to start nursing last year and spent most of my time trying to get into an LPN program... basically wasting time that I could have been doing RN prereqs.... Now that I know I want to go straight for my RN, I need to get all my prereqs done. I will start them in summer 2010. However, I really really really don't want to take a whole year just to finish BC's 4 prereqs. I was hoping that I could do all four of them, being ap 1 and 2 and chm with their corresponding labs this summer so that I can make the cut off date (Sept 1st) for the Spring of 2011. Honestly, is this super crazy? I just think that if I put my mind to it, I can do it. But I know how important the grade is so I don't want to start something I can't finish. My main concern is that I don't want to spend a whole other year waiting to get started in a nursing program. What do you suggest?

You have a BA degree...look for a BSN "second degree" school. Do not do the "hopscotch" from LPN to ADN, to BSN. There are a zillion second-degree BSN programs now. Sounds like you are taking the pre-req for them...just find a program and get prepared to "slam dunk" the interview and do it!
Also quit apologizing for wanting to change careers....you are the PERFECT person for a second-degree program. Lots of people return after a master's degree and we get some who return after a PhD in another field. Does not matter when in your life you decide to pursue your dream...the important thing is you are doing it. Make no excuses!
Good luck!
