Nurses Career Support

Published

I'm going to try and make this as short and sweet as possible while trying to make sense.

I'm 24 y/o male and graduated with a BA in Kinesiology (spec. Athletic Training) in 2007 and found out that's something I would do but not be truely happy doing as a career. So I've been doing little jobs here and there because you have to have a license to do anything anymore. I recently just moved from IL to SC and currently a manager at A&F. I enjoy it too but again, not something I can see myself doing forever. Before I chose Athletic Training I was actually going to do nursing but was talked out of it but something I really wanted to do. So my question(s)......

*How much does it generally cost to pursue this career, even now that I have a BA? around 2 years?

*Don't you have to do like clinical hours to where it's hard to have a job? I work 50 hours a week and like everyone, have bills to pay.

*Is there something else I could pursue related to that w/what I have?

These are just a few I have to get started. PS I was wanting first focus becoming an basica RN and then later get enough experience for one that is present during orthopedic surgeries, etc.

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

Depends whether you go for an Associates, diploma, or Bachelors. An Associates and diploma would tyically take around 2 years, a Bachelors 4 (unless you were in an accelerated program)

Yes, you do have to do clinical hrs, the amount of hrs will vary from program, but I had to do approx 24 hrs a week of clinical. I worked full-time through most of nursing school, so it is possible to work and go to school. It's probably preferred if you could work part-time, but that's not always possible.

You mean like an OR nurse? You can be an OR nurse right out of school. Or you could work on an orthopedic unit in the hospital.
