Quick history,
RN for 11 yrs
Diverse experience in CCU, PCU, ICU, Hospice and Office setting.
On going interest in "alternative" approaches to health and healing.
Self study in aromatherapy, healing touch and nutrition based approaches.
Very interested in empowerment and esteem based illness.(my own term)
Education is also important, helping others understand the role they play in their health and the healing process..
Now my "opportunity". After much turmoil and "going along" , I have finally realized that we make/ create our own lives. (Took awhile, but I got it). I am now understanding that this extends to ALL areas of ones life. So, I currently have the opportunity to direct my career into an area of my choice. I am still employeed as a prn nurse but have more freedom to further educate myself. I want to create a "service" that is holisitc and encompasses my interests. I am believing the if you make it they will come.. if I study, develop my own portfolio.. I will find the right place.. KWIM?
Any ideas... what would you do if you could have the "perfect" job for you?

I was very unhappy and burned out in nursing so, what would I do? Exactly what I did...First I prayed. I mean really prayed. I gave myself over to God. NOT in some ultra religious by the book way. (Not that I'm knocking that if that's your choice) I simply asked for guidance in my life as HE saw fit for me to live it. I believe we all are born with an inate sense of who we should become. I believe this is instilled by God. It's just that life kicks it out of us so to speak and we lose this. So first I prayed for guidance. Next I opened my eyes and my heart and listened. The next thing I knew I kept coming across words such as "holistic, herbal and natural healing" words that I really did not use. I paid close attention. I figured if God was ever to send me a message regarding healing, that would be it. Finally I combined these things. I made a list of all things that moved me since childhood, things I excelled at in school, things people noticed about me that I didn't notice about myself. You know when someone says your good at X. What was my passion was the big question. I combined all of the above things and began my studies (herbal sciences and nutrition as well as cometics and business). I am also putting together my business plan (hard work). I am very much still a work in progress (aren't we all) but if I can help you I will certainly try. Good luck to you.

The types of jobs that holistic nurses may pursue are as endless as your imagination. Some wonderful examples are found here.
Thank you for replying Passionflower. Your ideas of making a list of talents and passions, using a combination to create a plan sounds just up my alley.
Do you mind sharing in a little more detail what that plan is and how and where you see yourself in 5 yrs. If you would prefer to PM or email this exchange just let me know.
I have had the pleasure of meeting many Women Healers, strong intelligent women who have taken their path into their own hands. They have researched and studied, forged a place for their talents. They have created a place for their brand of healing, this includes Midwives, Nurses, FNPs, Herbalists, Osteopaths, Social Workers and the list goes on. I have thought of creating a list of questions, an interview of sorts. I see so many nurses who have a deeper calling, but are uncertain of where to go or how to utilize it.
Anywho, I am rambling..
VickyRN, Thanks for your many links and hard work.. I have found many gems in your posts..
Blessed Day.
Hey
Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have been working crazy hours and with everything else going on... you know the story I'm sure. You wanted to know about my 5 year plan. Well, I'll tell you more short term. I'm working on putting together a holistic type newsletter with women as my demographic. Not your typical health info newsletter those are boring. I will offer some products as well as workshops and consultations. Since I am still a baby in the herbal world, my initial focus and products will be regarding natural skin and hair care. Something I feel more confident on writing and speaking about. I hope to have guest authors feature herbs and pertinent health care information. My wig (wildly imaginable goal) is to ultimately run a community center. Teaching simple herbal blend programs for adults and children, I may even include art and dance if I can involve my family. There is much more but that is part of it in a nutshell. In the mean time I won't be leaving my day job!
