Capping questions??

Published

Hey All!! :typing

I am attending a college that doesn't honor the capping program. Please correct me if I am wrong but the capping is before you go to clinicals :nurse: right?

Well the class has decided to host our own capping ceremony. The only problem is... i don't know what it all entails. Please inform me as what all is done and needed for the capping ceremony!! Thanks!!

Different schools had different capping ceremonies, so it would be hard to give a blanket statement. But basically one walks up to a table where the caps are arranged (table can have candles, flowers, fancy linen tablecloth etc, or just plain), and someone (usually the head of the nursing school), places and pins the cap on your head. You walk away and that pretty much is that. If you want to know how your school did it exactly back in the day, find an older alumni, normally most are glad to help.

Some schools had a capping ceremony for students when they first offically entered the program, and at various levels of the program stripes would be added and or stripes added at graduation, that is if a totally different cap was not awarded to grads. Most college/university programs students got a plain cap as part of their student uniform, and there would be a capping ceremony (new cap with stripes) either before the main graduation or as part of it.

Many two and four year schools, stopped having nursing grads wear white and or capping ceremonies because it was felt it made nursing students stand out from the other graduates. Not to mention no one really wears caps anymore.

Best of luck and congrats!

Thanks a bunch!! that helps a lot....because now i know there isn't anything specific to do... I just now gotta figure out where to get the caps from.

Kay's Caps is still in business why not give them a call?

http://www.kayscaps.com/index.htmlIf your school ever had a cap, Kay's may even have the model in stock if not the pattern.

In my previous post forgot to mention that of course capping for grads was part of the pinning ceremony as well. If you go over to YouTube there are some videos on "Capping Ceremonies", but most are from LPN or hospital programs outside the United States.

Best of luck!

thanks a bunch!!
