Just an update in case anyone is interested. I interviewed for a NICU position and got it, but also have been offered a job closer to home, sticking with adults. Having my own kiddies at home, I chose to take the job near home instead. Although I would love to do NICU one day, I can't reason the long commute right now, along with what I know would be a long, challenging orientation. Maybe one day I pursue NICU again, but for now I am sticking with adult ICU. Good luck to everyone else working in or pursuing NICU, I think it is such a unique area and have all the respect in the world for you NICU RNs. FYI I will probably continue to stalk this forum whenever I want to live vicariously through you NICU peeps!

I'm so bummed. After years of working with adults I am trying to pursue my "dream" of working in a NICU. But I can't find a job! Most only hire RNs with NICU experience. The one or two places that I know are willing to train RNs are not getting back to me. I am used to being in demand and people WANTING to hire me! So sad. I need a job soon so I don't know if I should just give up, and work with adults again, or keep waiting around and try for NICU.
