Can't find a cosigner...

Published

I applied to Sallie Mae for a Tution Answer loan. I was approved but they said I need a cosigner. I cannot find anyone to cosign. There are very limited people I know with good credit and those who have it do not want to cosign. It scares people I guess. Does anyone have any other options? I can't get enough through the gov. so I need a private loan. What do I do if I can't get a cosigner? I have good credit so I am not sure what the issue is. :banghead:

Hi, try a Teri loan (teri.org) or a CitiAssist loan. I had difficulty going through Sallie Mae but had no problem with these two loan companies.

Ugh, I just went through the same thing and it's horrible. Capstone Illinois loan was the only thing that saved me (no cosigner required, you're just approved!), but you have to be an Illinois resident and attend a participating school. I couldn't really find any other loans that would not require a cosigner... I'd tell you to talk to your school's financial aid office, but they're usually quite useless. I really hope you find something; financial aid is such a huge stress!! :banghead:

i understand exactly how you feel. i too was in the same boat. i did not end up getting any private loans. however, my friend has borrowed from sallie mae and is paying her interest while in school and she needed an extra $1500 dollars until graduation in november. sallie mae told her that she too would need a co-signer. she didn't understand, either, since she had been making payments to them. she was fortunate enough that her bank loaned her the money at 2.9% interest! i wonder if it is tougher to obtain loans now because the economy is not good. i wish you luck in obtaining the funding you need for school!

After my divorce and my ex husband being in the military KILLING my (our) credit..........I applied for the Stafford Loan. If it wasn't for the Stafford I would have to work during school. With my situation there is just no way for me to work and juggle my kids (unless I had a nanny or a stay at home SO, instead of one that is constantly on business trips).

I get my Stafford through Wachovia and did NOT need a cosigner! Good Luck!
